For Families

1:1 educational psychotherapy for children and young people — practical, relational support that fits around school and home.

What I help with

Many children come feeling worried, angry or sad, sometimes without knowing why. Together we make sense of what’s going on and find ways to help. School, friendships and learning can be particular pinch-points; where useful I can share strategies and liaise with school so everyone pulls in the same direction. Sessions are tailored — art, board/card games, story-telling, play, reading or simply talking. We usually meet weekly for an hour, at school or in my therapy room.

How it works

  1. Initial conversation (parents/carers). We talk through your reasons for seeking support. I may suggest a classroom observation, depending on age and needs.
  2. First meeting with your child. A trusted adult (parent/carer/teacher) can attend if that helps them feel comfortable; I’ll brief the adult beforehand.
  3. Short trial. Typically 3–6 sessions, then a review with parents/carers (and your child if appropriate) to decide next steps.
  4. Ongoing work. If we continue longer term, I’ll link with the most appropriate member of school staff and meet weekly. School holidays are opt‑in; holiday sessions can take place at my therapy room in Stonegate.
  5. Staying in touch. You can email any time. My working days are Tuesday (pm), Wednesday and Thursday; I’ll ask for an update from home and school roughly every six weeks if we haven’t already spoken.
  6. Ending well. Ideally we agree together when to finish, based on progress at home, school and in therapy. Please allow six weeks’ notice so your child can prepare and say goodbye in a healthy way.

Safeguarding

  • Safeguarding Level 3; Enhanced (child workforce) DBS.
  • If I believe a child is at risk of harm, I will liaise with school and the local authority.
